Dance
All pupils from Nursery to Prep 5 take part in weekly Dance lessons as part of the School curriculum. Prep 6 pupils have Dance lessons periodically, as part of a rotating carousel of lessons. Pupils work on set movement exercises and motifs, as well as developing an imaginative dance vocabulary. Classes are thematically based and develop both technical and expressive dance skills in a variety of styles.
Associates of Dance
The IPS Associates of Dance is a particular success story. Over 150 pupils from the Pre-Prep, Prep and Senior School continue their enjoyment of dance by participating in a wide variety of co-curricular classes held after school and on Saturday mornings. These include: Ballet, Jazz, Tap and Street Dance. The Associates of Dance perform annually in a full-scale Dance Production, involving pupils from across the three schools. Ballet and Tap pupils are entered for ISTD Examinations.
Public performances take place in the Roberts Hall; an adaptable theatre space with a professional lighting rig and audio-visual capabilities. Lessons are taught in a dedicated Dance Studio which features a Harlequin Dance Floor. It provides a bright and intimate working space for creating dance and presenting in-class sharing of performance work.
A full-time and a part-time member of specialist staff teach in the department.
