PASTORAL CARE

The Nursery and Kindergarten follow the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) Guidelines for care and personal development. Children are active, engaged and learn how to take turns and make friendships. The most recent ISI Inspection confirmed that 'exemplary behaviour and outstanding personal development are strengths'.

In the Prep School, each pupil is under the care of a class teacher, supported by a learning assistant. The class teacher monitors pupils' daily welfare as well as being responsible for much of the PSHE programme. They help to build friendships and involvement in games, clubs and activities. Pupils also belong to one of four Houses, which form the basis of competitive games and activities throughout the year.

In the Senior School, Pastoral Care is organised via the four Houses under the guidance of the Senior Tutor, who leads a team of Housemasters and their House Tutors.

Within each House, there are four vertical House groups for pupils in Years 7-10, each with two or sometimes three tutors. The PVI (Year 11) pupils in each House are organised into two small groups, each with a single tutor with a particular interest in the welfare and development of young adults. Sixth Form pupils are often found mixing with younger pupils in their House - offering advice, encouraging participation in events like House Music, House Drama, Track and Field, and so on.

Sixth Form pupils benefit from belonging to small tutor groups comprised of both Upper SIxth and Lower Sixth pupils. These groups meet both informally and formally during the week to promote effective preparation for A-Level or Pre-U examinations, for University Entrance, and for life post-school. Sixth Form Tutors' studies are located adjacent to the Common Room so that tutors and pupils see each other regularly throughout the school day.

Overseeing the welfare of these young men and women is also part of a Tutor's role, who discusses matters pertaining to health, personal safety, managing pressure, relationships and participation in society.

The Sixth Form Tutor Team is led by the Head of Sixth, supported by a Deputy, who also guides the transition programme for Pre-Sixth (Year 11) pupils as they prepare for Sixth Form life.
