Prep School (Macleod House)

Macleod House (6-11 year olds)

Pupils entering Macleod House are introduced to a diverse curriculum. The emphasis is on English, Mathematics and Science and the transition begins from class teaching for most lessons to more specialised teaching in Art, French, Mandarin, Design Technology, Music, Dance, Religious Education, Physical Education and Games. ICT is embedded in the curriculum.

Pupils are set according to ability in French and Mathematics and are prepared for formal examinations at 11+. Able linguists are introduced to Latin and Greek. Homework is set throughout the Prep School and this enables pupils to reinforce the day's learning and provides an opportunity to work alone.

Making music is an important part of the life of the school. The music curriculum includes recorder, a strings scheme, choir and various chamber music ensembles. Individual tuition is available in a wide range of instruments. There are regular platform performances and concerts at which pupils have the opportunity to perform in front of an audience.

The Macleod House sport programme offers a comprehensive range of learning experiences to meet the needs of individuals and encourage active involvement of all pupils. Pupils are involved in weekly PE sessions, including swimming, and in a Games lesson each week. They make use of the School's own facilities which include the new Sports Hall, swimming pool, playing fields and the Astroturf court.
