Sporting Activities - Major Games
Football is the main team sport for boys during the Autumn Term. IPS regularly fields U12-U16 teams at A and B level and has five Senior School teams. IPS plays on a strong school fixture list which includes: Alleyn’s, Ardingly, City of London, Hampton, St Bede’s and Winchester College. IPS teams also compete in ISFA and ESFA cups as well as hosting and competing in regional small sided tournaments. Training takes place after school and in Games with dedicated coaching provided for each year group throughout the week. Matches take place both midweek and at weekends.
Girls Football has also made its debut at IPS and we look forward to seeing this popular sport progress further in the near future.
The Golf Society plays at Richmond Park throughout the summer Term and IPS pupils compete both as individuals and teams in a variety of County and National competitions.
Hockey is the main team sport for girls in the Spring Term. IPS regularly fields U12-U15 teams at A and B team level and has two Senior School sides. IPS competes well on a strong school fixture list that includes: Godolphin and Latymer, Latymer, St Benedict’s and Wimbledon High. IPS have both on site and off site training facilities with Senior pupils able to use the Astroturf pitches at the nearby Bank of England Sports Ground. Training takes place after school and in Games with dedicated coaching provided for each year group throughout the week. Matches take place both midweek and at weekends.
Kickboxing is a popular Sixth Form Games option that takes place during the Spring Term. The sessions are run by a fully-qualified and trained instructor.
Netball is a sport in which the IPS girls continue to enjoy great success. It is the main girls’ sport for the Autumn Term. IPS regularly fields A and B teams from U12-U16 and has three Senior School sides. IPS competes very well on a strong fixture list against schools including: Emmanuel, Kingston Grammar and Latymer and has had success at Regional level. Training takes place after school and in Games, with dedicated coaching provided for each year group throughout the course of the week. Matches take place both midweek and at weekends.
Rounders is a popular Summer Term sport for IPS girls. There is a busy fixture list at A and B level, from U12-U15. Training takes place in PE lessons and after school; all are welcome to attend.
Rugby is the main team sport for boys in the Spring Term. IPS regularly fields U12-U15 teams at A and B level and has three Senior School teams, including an U16A team. IPS plays on a strong fixture list which includes schools such as Emmanuel, John Fisher, KCS Wimbledon and Trinity. The School also competes in many 15-a-side and 7-a-side tournaments throughout the term. Senior 7s training takes place out of season and IPS teams have experienced recent success in both forms of the Union game. All boys take part in Rugby in Games and after school training is open to all. Matches are played both midweek and at weekends.
Athletics has been thriving at IPS over recent years and is a very popular Summer Term sport. All pupils have the opportunity to practise and compete in events during their Games sessions in preparation for the annual School Track and Field Event; an event held at Hercules Wimbledon Athletic Club’s Track, Wimbledon Park. Athletics training takes place after school and on Saturday mornings throughout the Summer Term with coaching clinics offered to athletes in all events. All pupils are welcome to attend. IPS athletes compete throughout the Summer Term on a competitive schools circuit and in a range of Regional and National Tournaments and have enjoyed recent success at the English Schools Finals.
Badminton is a popular sport played throughout the year in the Sports Hall. Badminton Club takes place after school in the Spring and Summer Term.
Canoeing is a popular Sixth Form Games option that takes place during the Autumn Term at the Water Sports Centre in Wimbledon Park.
IPS cricketers train after school throughout the winter in the indoor cricket nets and prepare themselves for a busy Summer Term. IPS teams of all ages compete on a strong local circuit and in Surrey Cup competitions.
Cross Country has flourished in recent years with IPS runners having enjoyed success at Regional and Borough level. Cross Country Club takes place after school throughout the year and caters for runners of all ages and abilities. Each year all pupils compete in the House Cross Country event over a two mile course in nearby Richmond Park.
Fitness and Conditioning Club
Fitness and Conditioning Club is a popular early morning club that takes place before school. All pupils are invited to attend. Sessions focus on different fitness components each week.
The Swimming squads train at the School’s on-site indoor pool and professional coaching is supplied all year round. IPS U12-U16 swimmers compete in inter-school Swimming Galas and pupils have the opportunity to compete for the School at Regional and National level.
IPS has a close affiliation with the nearby Annabel Croft Tennis Academy, pupils also have the opportunity to train all year round. Pupils can either play recreationally or competitively in the School’s fixture list. Training in the Summer Term may also take place after school at the Bank of England Sports Ground.
