Ibstock Place School How to apply

 How to Apply

Mrs Sue Parsons, Registrar

All prospective pupils must be registered with the school and forms are available from the Registrar. The school has a waiting list scheme for Priestman House and it is advisable to register early. A sibling policy operates to enable whole families to enrol at Ibstock Place subject to the availability of places and the entrance requirements being met. In the Autumn before the proposed entry date, the Registrar will contact parents and invite them to enter their child for assessment.

Entry into Priestman House
Entry into the Nursery and Lower Kindergarten is from the waiting list. Priority in this category is given to parents who wish their children to proceed through the eight years of Primary School, as the school considers that pupils thrive on continuity in approach. For occasional vacancies in Upper Kindergarten (Year 1) and Transition (Year 2), prospective pupils are invited to come to School for an individual assessment according to their position on the waiting list.

Entry into Macleod House
All those who are registered with the School may sit an assessment for occasional places in Years 3 to 6. The assessments take place on a Saturday morning in January prior to entry the following September. Prospective pupils are assessed in English, both written and oral, and Mathematics. Year 5 and 6 candidates are also given a Reasoning paper. A written report is requested from the Head Teacher of the candidate’s current school.

Entry into the Senior School for external candidates
The Senior school intake expands to four tutor group entry in Senior 7. Examinations and interviews are held early in the New Year and papers are set in English, Mathematics and Reasoning. Detailed information about the January examinations is sent to the parents of all registered candidates. The offer of a place is made on the basis of performance in the examinations, the interview and the confidential report from the Head Teacher of the candidate's current school.

Entry into the Senior School for internal candidates
All J6 pupils sit the 11+ examination at the same time as external candidates. The school is aware that some pupils will be sitting entrance examinations for other schools. Parents of a pupil whose educational needs cannot be met by Ibstock Place School will have been forewarned that the Senior School will not be the appropriate choice at age 11. Support and guidance in the choice of an appropriate school is offered to parents in such cases.

Entry into the Sixth Form
The Sixth Form provides a rigorous academic environment where supported independence and a wide range of opportunities for initiative and leadership are available. Rather than being an end in itself, the Sixth Form tutorial and academic programmes build on a pupil's interests and strengths towards their Higher Education aspirations. Numbers in Sixth Form are considerably smaller than elsewhere to ensure small classes and tutor groups.

Candidates are expected to meet minimum academic standards, including, at GCSE, an A Grade or higher in the subjects (or their prerequisites) they wish to study at A-Level, and a total of 50 points from 8 GCSE subjects (where an A* grade equals 8 points), including at least a C Grade in English, Mathematics and a Modern Foreign Language. Entrance examinations are held late in Autumn Term, and are accompanied by interviews and, in Music, Drama, Art and Physical Education, a demonstration of work in that subject to date. A confidential report is requested from the Head Teacher of the candidate's current school.

There is no Special Needs Department at the school although, occasionally, pupils may require short-term support in academic studies. Such help, on a fees-for-service basis from peripatetic staff, is available after consultation between staff and parents.

Places are offered at the school subject to the school's conditions of entry. All particulars may be obtained from the Registrar.
