In the Nursery through to the end of Prep, pupils' welfare and development is overseen by a classroom teacher who works with the Heads of Departments to care for the needs of the child as a learner and as a member of our community.
In the Senior School, pupils join Tutor Groups, each led by two members of the teaching staff, whose role is to provide advice and support throughout the academic year liaising, where necessary, with parents and teachers. While the tutorial programme manages the major pastoral matters that pertain to a pupil's personal, social and moral development, the House system provides a framework through which enjoyable competition in a wide range of activities - from athletics, basketball and touch-typing to cookery, music, drama and art. The tutorial programme and the House system is managed by the Head of Pastoral Care and his team of Heads of Year and Heads of Houses. At its core, it explores the themes of self-awareness, and relationships with friends, family and the wider community.
In the final year of GCSE studies, pupils join the Pre-Sixth, or PVI. Tutor groups are smaller, and there is a single tutor charged with helping these pupils make the right decisions about life at school and beyond. The tutorial programme focuses on developing effective relationships and making sensible decisions in the face of increasing societal and peer pressure.
In the Sixth Form, or VI, pupils join a tutor group for two years. These groups combine Lower and Upper Sixth pupils under the guidance of a tutor whose main role is to help pupils develop greater independence as well as to monitor their progress. The Deputy Head of Sixth and the Second Master administer all aspects of the PVI and VI pastoral programmes, which frequently draw on matters raised by the pupils, and includes presentations by tutor groups to their peers.
