Teachers of the Prep School work in partnership with parents, who are encouraged to support the homework assignments set for pupils.

In the Pre-Prep Department, modest homework assignments are set daily and vary according to the age of the pupil. All pupils are asked to read aloud to an adult every evening for at least 15 minutes. We hope that our children will borrow additional books from the class or Pre-Prep Library. Parents are asked to write an observational comment each night in their child’s Reading Record.

In the Preparatory Department, homework is recorded daily in the Homework Diary. The diary is an effective method of communication between home and School and parents are asked to sign it each evening. Reading Record books are also an important method of tracking pupils’ daily reading and communicating on progress.

From Prep 3, pupils are encouraged to work as independently as possible. Homework assignments are expected to be completed to a high standard and the following guidelines indicate approximately the amount of time that is expected to be used for reading practice or homework.

Spelling tests are given weekly throughout the School and pupils need support at home in the revision of words and new vocabulary.

The learning and revision of multiplication tables, division facts, number bonds and subtraction facts are also part of the weekly routine and encouragement from home is helpful to ensure these are secure.
