Specialist Teaching

Specialist Teaching

From Kindergarten, our pupils enjoy dedicated Art, Design & Technology, Music & Creative Arts, Sports and PSCHE lessons, taught by specialist staff.

Art & Design

Art and Design & Technology are generously timetabled and taught in a dedicated Art studio.

From Kindergarten, pupils have ownership of their creative space and feel comfortable moving around the studio with confidence and independence.

Ibstock has an exciting, ambitious and broad Art curriculum. Pupils are encouraged to view their Art lessons beyond the learning of technical skills as the process of looking; organising; thinking; wondering; questioning; imagining; communicating and enjoyment.

Design & Technology involves two important elements: learning about how things work and learning to design and make functional products for particular purposes and users. Children have the opportunity to tackle problems of a practical nature which equips them with important life skills.

In the Summer term we hold an Arts Week, sparking our pupils’ creativity through a wide range of artist-led workshops centred around an annual theme. The week ends with a highly anticipated Arts Show, exhibiting the work of our talented pupils to family and friends. Take a look at last year’s ‘Under the Sea’ theme.

Music & Creative Arts

Pupils enjoy creating, performing and evaluating music across a range of historical periods, genres and traditions.

Through our dedicated team of over 15 visiting music teachers, pupils can learn an array of instruments.

Outside of the classroom there are lots of ways for pupils to get involved in music, from String Ensembles to the Big Sing, and Rock Bands to Ukulele Singer-Songwriters.

Building performance experience is crucial not only for musicians, but for all children in developing their confidence and resilience. There are a range of performance opportunities, including our ‘ Tea-Time Concert’ series, giving young musicians the experience of playing to a small and friendly audience of parents and other performers.

Watch our pupils marching as part of the Grow Roehampton Street Band. Performing as part of Wandsworth Arts Festival, bringing the local community together and having fun through music.

PSCHE

Our pupils are taught Personal, Social, Citizenship and Health Education (PSCHE) from Kindergarten. PSCHE underpins learning across the curriculum and helps our pupils to develop the essential social, personal and critical-thinking skills they need to successfully and safely navigate the world.
