Innovation at Ibstock

Our Innovation Centre is the focal point for technological advances across all subjects and age groups at Ibstock.

The Innovation Hub houses facilities for green screen cinematography, podcasting, advanced audio, video and photo editing, collaborative workshopping at large ‘Harkness’ tables, physical computing and robotics equipment, and a full-size computer suite. It is also home to our sector-leading Esports Arena.

Ibstock's Esports Arena is an inspiring space for competitive gaming, learning and socialising.

As part of our commitment to providing innovative, inspiring opportunities for our pupils, Ibstock's cutting edge Esports Arena allows pupils to compete in the British Esports Student Championships - an organised series of fixtures between schools across the UK.

The Wall

The Innovation Hub is home to our multi award-winning pupil-led publication, The Wall.

Pupils work together around a feature ‘editorial table’ on devices equipped with the latest suite of creative applications. The sound-isolated breakout pods facilitate parallel workstreams as different editorial groups plan and draft content for the magazine, while designers create compelling digital media to illustrate the contents.

The Slightly Scientific Podcast

Oliver (Senior 11) started The Slightly Scientific Podcast from his bedroom during lockdown. Since then, the project has flourished, with twelve published episodes and a team of pupils now producing them from our new Innovation Centre.

From talking vaccines with Dame Sarah Gilbert to uncovering the great mysteries of biochemistry, the aim is to make science fun and accessible while exploring the latest breakthroughs and interviewing experts in the field.
