Prep STEAM Week
Prep pupils enjoyed an exciting and hands-on STEAM Week, centred around the theme of Animal Habitats.
Each year group explored a different habitat through creative activities, engineering challenges and cross-curricular learning, bringing science and nature to life across the school.
Our youngest learners in Pre-Prep were introduced to a wide range of animals and discovered where they live around the world. They also enjoyed a very special visit from One World Animals, who brought along some fascinating wild creatures including a tarantula, snakes, an iguana and a mouse. Pupils had the opportunity to gently pet and even hold the animals in their hands – so brave!
Prep 1 explored woodland habitats, creating their own woodland animals and even making a hedgehog out of Rice Krispie treats. In Computing, the pupils thought about many different animals and the habitats they live in. They used Scratch Junior on the iPads and coded animals to appear in their various habitats.
Prep 3 designed impressive desert habitats inside shoeboxes, while Prep 6 put their engineering skills to the test by designing and building bird houses. Prep 5 had an exciting time exploring the Isles of Scilly through a STEAM and English project linked to 'Why the Whales Came'.
Pupils investigated local habitats—especially rock pools, their animals, and the climate—and brought their learning to life by writing non-chronological reports, experiencing an immersive VR session, and creating detailed rock-pool artwork.
The week concluded with a wonderful Open House, where pupils proudly showcased their projects to parents. It was a fantastic celebration of creativity, curiosity and learning, and a great example of STEAM education in action.
