EDI Ambassadors Explore Black History in the City
In support of Black History Month, our EDI Ambassadors took part in a fascinating guided Black History walking tour between St Paul’s and Bank.
Along the route, the guide highlighted the many visual reminders of the City’s historic links with Africa and the Caribbean, as well as the bravery and contributions of men and women from across the British Empire who answered the call for help during the Second World War.
One of those who came to Britain’s aid was Lieutenant John Smythe from Sierra Leone, who showed great courage and took significant risks to his own life during the war. His story was one of many examples that helped the Ambassadors understand the important contributions and sacrifices made by people from across the British Empire.
The Ambassadors will be sharing what they discovered with the school in an upcoming assembly, giving the wider school community the opportunity to learn more about these important and often lesser-known stories.
