Senior School Curriculum

Our broad and ambitious curriculum is rooted in our values-based education, nurturing kind hearts, inspiring curious minds and guiding courageous futures.

Our Curriculum

Underpinned by Ibstock's unique Compass Learning philosophy, our curriculum provides scope and focus to pupils to discover and develop their passions.

From Senior 7, Ibstock's curriculum incorporates weekly Oracy & Debating lessons, culminating in an English Speaking Board (ESB) Public Speaking qualification at the end of Senior 7 and a Debating qualification at the end of Senior 8.

To lay the foundations for communication in our global world, pupils learn French, Latin, German and Spanish on rotation from Senior 7, progressing with two into Senior 8 and Senior 9. Mandarin is available as a GCSE and A-level option.

Expressive Arts are introduced in Senior 7 with pupils learning Art, D&T, Drama and Music. Dance is introduced as an option for pupils in Senior 8, with pupils choosing three Expressive Arts subjects in Senior 8 and Senior 9.

Games and P.E are taught weekly from Senior 7,  aiming to inspire every pupil to thrive through sport and foster a love of physical activity that encourages lifelong participation.

Innovation at Ibstock has received national recognition. All pupils learn Computing from Senior 7, equipping them not only with technical skills, but also the creativity, confidence, and collaborative mindset for a rapidly changing world.

The Foundations (PSHE) programme develops research skills and awareness and understanding of the wider world, and is taught alongside Futures (Careers). Cookery is taught in Senior 7 and Senior 8 within our specialist Cookery Suite.

Super Curriculum

We are committed to ensuring every pupil is appropriately challenged and inspired to reach their full potential, both within the classroom and beyond. Alongside this, our Academic Mentoring Team provides tailored support for learning,  ensuring every child is supported to fulfil their potential.

We delight in providing opportunities for our pupils to go beyond the curriculum.

Through participation in numerous competitions throughout the school year, our pupils have the chance to gain national recognition. These include Maths Challenges, Poetry by Heart competitions, translation competitions and coding projects.

Through our extensive co-curricular programme of over 200 activities, pupils can try things just for fun, from literary baking to safe cracking. At the beginning of each term, our ‘Try It Week’ gives pupils the opportunity to discover new activities, develop new interests and find something they love.

Ibstock extends learning beyond the classroom through academic exploration, professional curiosity and a range of pupil-led projects. Each term, our Stretch and Challenge Catalogue offers a range of activities and extension opportunities, from museum reviews and wider reading to website creation and independent research, helping pupils broaden their knowledge and develop new skills.
