‘…pupils are taught to become independent critical thinkers...’
‘The whole school is led impressively by Chris Wolsey. Engaged and accessible, he brings a collegiate style of leadership to the school community.’
‘This all-through school on the edge of Richmond Park seamlessly combines tradition and innovation…’
‘From personal experience – and it’s the consensus among my peers – I believe that Christopher Wolsey is somebody who genuinely cares about the wellbeing and opinions of the students.’ So says one satisfied parent of Ibstock’s head. And Wolsey cares about the pupils’ articulacy, too.

'Alongside forging positive relationships with his charges, he puts great emphasis on their oracy: the public-speaking team recently triumphed in a competition at Cambridge University; and through membership of the The Noisy Classroom organisation, the debaters can argue the toss with children from around the world.'

'The new Esports arena is match-fit for gamers; the school team has exploded onto the Esports Rocket League, already winning silverware; and did we mention that there’s an incoming head of AI? However, if all this doesn’t sound enticing enough, the roster of foreign adventures should clinch it. ‘Over the next few years, my lucky son is hoping to go on a classics trip to Pompeii and a Tuscan art retreat, as well as language-study visits to Munich and Valencia, skiing in Switzerland and surfing in France,’ reports one parent.'

‘…the range of community and charity activities that my son is involved with is amazing.’
‘We love everything about Ibstock and our son is incredibly happy there.’
‘Very happy indeed with the school as a parent. Most importantly, my daughter is happy and flourishing. Thank you.’
‘It’s given me so many opportunities... I don’t think there could be a better school for me.’
‘Right from the beginning I was made to feel at home.’
‘Ibstock helped me achieve the grades I needed…but more importantly it helped me to explore my interests and talents.’
Equality, Diversity & Inclusion (EDI) are embedded in Ibstock's curriculum design, pastoral provision and whole-school culture to ensure that our pupils experience it as a lived reality throughout their education.
To ensure everyone can thrive and meet their full potential, inclusion and equality is at the core of our ethos, aligning with our school values of Kind Hearts, Curious Minds, and Courageous Futures.
We proactively foster social cohesion in all areas of school life, pastoral, academic and co-curricular, and seek to remove any barriers to access, participation, progression, attainment, and achievement. We will not tolerate any form of discrimination. You can read our Equality, Diversity and inclusion policy in full here.
A range of co-curricular clubs and societies support our Equality, Diversity & Inclusion work including:
Beyond the classroom, EDI at Ibstock is made visible and meaningful through a whole-school programme of commemorative events and action-based initiatives.
Through celebrations including PRIDE, International Women's Day, Black History Month, Neurodiversity Week and Period Power Day, we show support not only to individual pupils who feel themselves celebrated, but also to their friends and colleagues whose understanding and knowledge is broadened.
Pupil Voice is strong at Ibstock, with significant representation from EDI voices in our Sixth Form Cabinet including Race and Heritage Reps, LGBTQ Reps and Gender Equality Reps, who work with the Director of EDI and lead societies.
Our pupils also benefit from listening to other voices by working with outside providers in workshops including Beyond Equality, Bold Voices and ACEN (African and Caribbean Education Network).
At Ibstock, our distinctive Compass Learning philosophy places every learner at the heart of their educational experience. Through the 'Unique Journeys' pillar, we recognise that each pupil brings their own strengths, experiences and perspectives. This commitment shapes an inclusive approach to teaching and learning, where curriculum access, representation and aspiration are tailored to the needs and identities of every individual—not a one-size-fits-all model.
Our Pathways (PSHE) curriculum provides a structured, progressive framework for developing pupils' understanding of equality, diversity and inclusion. Using a spiral curriculum, pupils revisit key themes throughout their school journey, deepening their knowledge, emotional literacy and critical thinking over time. Through exploring topics such as identity, discrimination, gender, sexuality, relationships, democracy and equality, they learn to engage thoughtfully with complex social issues and develop genuine respect for others. Learning is grounded in real-world contexts and lived experiences, encouraging pupils to challenge stereotypes, recognise structural inequality, and communicate with empathy, confidence and respect.
Through our Futures (Careers) programme, we work to widen opportunity and raise aspirations. Pupils gain insight into a broad range of careers, pathways and the changing world of work through up-to-date labour market information and meaningful careers education. We actively challenge gender stereotypes and other barriers to aspiration, while encouraging pupils to reflect on how factors such as background, circumstance and privilege can influence access to opportunities. By developing an awareness of both their own experiences and those of others, pupils are equipped to recognise inequality, value fairness and make informed, socially responsible choices about their futures. In this way, Ibstock's commitment to EDI extends beyond identity and culture to encompass access, opportunity and social mobility.
